Pres aide says single cryptocurrency for EAEU seems logical

MOSCOW, Mar 27 (PRIME) -- Creating a single cryptocurrency inside the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) would be logical, German Klimenko, Russian presidential aide for the Internet development, said on Tuesday.

“It would make sense. We should understand that the main task of modern cryptocurrencies is inter-state settlements. We should understand that unless the states agree and tackle this story, it would be hardly possible to make it on a global basis,” Klimenko said.

“The best way, as I see it, is to develop the existing unions of states. In this aspect, the E.U. as a model could demonstrate very well how cryptocurrencies could work in international payment systems…The E.U. had finally agreed on the euro.”

The question of who will control such a cryptocurrency is the one of talks. “On the one hand, a cryptocurrency is decentralized, it has no master. On the other hand, a validator is needed to insert confirmed information into the system. This validator should be chosen by someone,” the official said.

The EAEU comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.
